Rapunzel

The Ross Park Zoo sits tucked into the northern face of Binghamton's South Mountain. The zoo officially opened in 1875, and it is the fifth oldest zoological institution in the country.

Every year, the prestigious Ross Park Zoo Teddy Bear Artist Invitational is held in support of Endangered Species . The Ross Park Zoo Teddy Bear Artist International 2001 will be held from 17-18 August 2001 . This year's theme is "Children's Storytime" . Teddy Bear artists from all over the world are invited to contribute gallery pieces which will be sold or auctioned at the show , with fifty percent (50%) of the purchase price being shared with TBAI to support programs benefiting endangered species at the Ross Park Zoo.

Knowing how important this cause is, Gabby was delighted to be able to contribute a beautiful gallery piece based on the children's fairy tale, Rapunzel. This set piece features a castle tower in which Rapunzel , a lovely bear with a beautiful long braid made from vintage real hair  , is trapped . Her knight-in-shining-armour, the Prince bear, prepares to scale the tower , courtesy of Rapunzel's hair , in a bid to rescue her, while his faithful horse awaits , ready to carry them off to safety !

Both Rapunzel and Prince bears are completely designed and handsewn by Gabby, in a work of love  for this good cause , down to their detailed period costumes . The bit and bridle of the horse was also created by Gabby. The tower in particular, posed a challenge to make, but Gabby in her usual determined way, put her creative talents to work and created a beautiful set piece in which to tell her simple tale of true love conquering all odds.
